How does it work?

  • Using techniques like search engine optimisation, bait websites are ranked on top of search results.
  • Users are prompted to allow notifications once they enter the bait website.
  • If allowed, the website floods the system with fake malware alerts and malicious links.
  • Users who click on these are directed to tracker servers based on their location, browser, and OS.
  • Here they are lured into downloading unwanted browser plug-ins, malware and a variety of malicious cryptocurrency miners.

We recommend the following

  1. Ensure the website is secured even if it is ranked on top of search results.
  2. Refrain from download cracked versions of any software.
  3. Keep your antivirus up-to-date with the latest security updates.
