CBUAE โ Fraud Risk
Fraud prevention obligations under Federal Decree Law 6/2025, Article 149.
What does Federal Decree Law 6/2025 require UAE banks to do about fraud prevention?
Federal Decree Law No. 6/2025 (the New CBUAE Law), Article 149, introduces an explicit mandatory obligation for all licensed financial institutions to implement robust fraud prevention and detection mechanisms. Banks must protect customers from unauthorised transactions and identity theft, notify customers promptly of any breaches, cooperate fully with CBUAE investigations, and share limited information with other licensed institutions where necessary to verify suspicious activity.

How does this course satisfy Article 149 of the New CBUAE Law?
This course trains employees to identify internal and external fraud risks, recognise red flags in business processes, implement anti-fraud controls such as segregation of duties and approval workflows, and report fraud effectively through the correct internal channels. These competencies directly support the fraud prevention and detection mechanisms that Article 149 requires licensed financial institutions to have in place.

The course covers the full fraud risk landscape relevant to UAE financial institutions โ including internal occupational fraud, external fraud schemes, cyber-enabled fraud, social engineering, and vendor fraud. It uses the fraud triangle framework (pressure, opportunity, rationalisation) to help employees understand why fraud occurs, and provides practical tools for prevention, detection through exception reporting and monitoring, and compliant reporting of suspected fraud incidents.
